[ He's in a proper sitting position on the bed, rubbing his face a little. ]
I should probably grab my stuff so I can--
[ And then he pauses, remembering something before jolting up faster than he should and reeling a little. The wave of pain mixed with the grogginess making him stumble. ]
[ There's a hint of relief when he is handed the jacket instead of Sholmes looking in it. Hm.
But he digs into one of the pockets and extracts a note, handing it over to him. The are written in loopy script "of a learned scholar," contents read:
"These windows between our worlds, opened with greedy hands, have so foolishly been left open - and so we are all punished for that hubris, as the spectres take all that we are." ]
Mr. Turner, that wizard, stated that his kind could open portals. Nothing as major as this, perhaps, but if that does exist, then perhaps it's a similar principle.
Mm. Our masked benefactors are the ones who can ward them off...but given that execution last week, there are circumstances where they can be cut off. One perhaps has to understand that if it is an ability that was given to them, whether we can make use of it when and wherever we can.
[ He runs his hand through his hair, a little frustrated. ]
And I'm sure if we even asked them about some of this, they'd just tell us their hands are tied. Or, worse, they'll turn to dust if they try to help. It makes you wonder what the person at the top even has in mind turning this all into some kind of competition.
From what I have discussed with them...perhaps there's more at stake than we realize. [...] One of them seemed to suggest they took this whole role up to protect their world from being destroyed, which may indicate that our worlds may be in jeopardy, as well.
Yeah, I think they all have something or someone they want to protect or save. And I can't fault them for it. I heard that a lot of people will be hurt if one side wins.

[He's actually coming over instantly to put a hand on the other's shoulder, trying to stabilize him.]
What's wrong? There's no rush.

[ He shakes his head, trying to shake that slight dizziness off. ]
I can't believe I forgot about it.

[Hm? He's tilting his head.]
What is it?

[ See? Important things, sir. ]

[How very, very interesting.]
So these spectres are punishments for..."windows" left open? Likely whatever let us inside.

[ But they're here... so. ]

Could happen again, yes.

How are we even supposed to fight against something like that?

I promise Shamsiel that I would do my utter best in trying to figure out a peaceful solution to this "conflict". I do hope that...will be possible.

I hope the same. I told them I'd be working my hardest to help keep everyone safe.
[ Not just the people here in the immediate, he means. ]

[But...it doesn't mean he will stop trying, though.]
