Personally, I think the company was unlikely to succeed in the first place, with its business model... but it's not good, no. Radio interference from the pale is common, but a swallow, that was new.
The pale is supposed to be thousands of kilometres away, and not in a building on the Rue de Saint-Brune. Or so we thought.
[He gives Kotetsu a cautious look. Like he's trying to gauge his reaction.]
The City of Revachol is located in the Insulindian isola. And isolas are the parts of the world where matter is found. Land and sea, bordered by pale on all sides.
[ It looks like he believes what he's saying, though he might not fully understand the scope of things. Not as big brain as some people around here. He scratches his head in thought. ]
It sounds like a pretty complicated thing... Is there a way to combat whatever that pale is? And I'm not really sure what you mean by "matter is found."
[The lieutenant is silent for a few moments. The cigarette in his hand has burned down into an ashy stub, and he realizes this suddenly, extinguishing and discarding it.]
...
Something like that, yes. After all, there's no point in overthinking facts, if they cannot be changed.
Doesn't it only get to that point of not being able to be changed when you give up trying?
[ They've had some pretty "impossible" things happen while they've been here, after all. Besides, he's not the type to give up even when hope seems all but lost. ]

Matter as in land and water, birds and trees, buildings and people. The pale is the absence of all of these things and more.
It's always been there. Since before the beginning of recorded history.

[ His head tilts a bit, thinking about it all. That does sound unnerving, at the very least... ]

Before I started seeing these other worlds, I assumed it was a normal phenomenon. Just a part of nature that we don't understand...
I don't know what to think now.

Who knows, maybe it is related to all this somehow.

[He looks appreciative, and a little less cautious than moments ago.]
We've been dealing with this for thousands of years, so I don't expect any easy solutions. But I'd like to try, if we get the opportunity.

[ Well, it could, if handled poorly. But no use thinking like that. ]
Maybe with all the technology and different things people know from these different worlds you'll be able to get an answer eventually.

I've never thought of it as something that can be understood, much less... [Mitigated? Stopped?]
... I've tried not to think about it much at all.

Yeah...? 'fraid it might drive you crazy if you think about it too much?
[ Or something else? ]
