[ It took a while for people to start figuring things out and settling on what to do, but eventually, Kotetsu manages to snipe someone to help him check on the traps and other things to see if anything happened with them.
As they walk outside, he hooks his arms behind his head and looks over at Revali. ]
[Truthfully, that someone is missing does a lot to get Revali to cooperate with literally everyone. You could pair him with Akira -- the guy he got into a fistfight with less than 12 hours after arrival -- and he'd accept it without complain. Fortunately for everyone instead he's with Kotetsu, and that's something he'll privately be glad about.
Another thing he's privately glad about is that Kotetsu doesn't have the mask right now. What'd people say if they saw him following Wild Tiger around, goodness gracious, Revali has an image to maintain!
He waves a wing, a tad dismissively]
Someone had to make sure you'd be safe. May as well be me.
[ So far, even with Revali's attitude, Kotetsu doesn't hate him. He's dealt with a lot of different personalities and this is mild compared to some of them. Or, rather, he's gotten used to tolerating this type. ]
Hey, we're here to keep each other safe.
[ While he knows he has quick wits about him, it's better everyone stays in pairs or more during this time. ]
Want to start on the traps on the outskirts first?
What can you do to protect yourself? Can you fight, do you have a weapon?
[At least Revali does now -- that's one large bow! Almost as tall as him! And he has began to try to improve in close combat, too, but that's...a work in progress]
That's a decent idea. Any Spectre presumably came from outside the town.
[The traps on the outskirts are likelier to have something useful! Alas, probably won't because it's not investigation time, but still!]
[Ever since the shenanigans of the week before, when Marius died, there's something Revali has been bouncing in his head. After a few days it seems to have gotten him fed up enough to try to settle this particular topic, which is why, when he finds Kotetsu in the castle, he decides to ask once and for all.
It's unimportant, he thinks. But maybe once he has an answer he'll stop thinking about it:]
You. I have one question, and I hope to get an answer. Any objections?
[From the way Revali says he makes it sound muuuuuch more serious than it is, instead of a mere attempt to satisfy his curiosity, hah]
[Revali doesn't reciprocate the wave. What a surprise. He seems in just as surly of a mood as usual. Stiiiiill...]
Feeling better today? I heard you were injured recently.
[He wasn't there to receive people, but word travels fast when it's about people returning with injuries, you know. Seems like Revali judged that important enough to check on him first -- although, knowing him, this probably isn't a social visit to hang out, hah. If he's here, he must have a reason of some sort in mind!
The woes of playing one of the serious ones in the game, alas]
[That's got to be one of the less warm 'gladly' ever uttered. Not that Revali doesn't care about Kotetsu's injuries. On the contrary, he finds them pretty concerning! But he has never been a friendly person]
Come walk with me. I'd like you to take me to where you and the others stumbled out of.
[ He's gotten used to Revali just being... like this. So he doesn't really take it personally. Besides, he hasn't be a huge jerk or anything, so that's fine.
But he accompanies him to the door he came out from with the others. ]
[Revali is someone who likes to talk about himself -- with the caveat it's positive and praises his achievements. If that doesn't happen, he's not so talkative. Unfortunately for him, a lot of these memories aren't that sort. Will this one be, though? Maybe.
The other thing he's very unlucky about is that he has a daemon that doesn't hesitate to give pieces of his past to anyone she sees. It's like a weird variant of Revali's desire to boast, just that she's far less discerning and probably likes to make her person get involved socially with other people. Such is life.
Hey! Kotetsu! Look at this penguin! Penguin with a glass shard in her beak, very clearly trying to give it to you!]
A mournful melody echoes around, which probably would be far more fitting if it wasn't played on an otomatone. Everything takes the form of the nightly sky, the memory taking place in something very large, something that's moving. Something about the memory is so strange -- it feels like looking at everything around, being aware of every part of some humongous mechanical thing, flying through the sky at the control of someone -- Revali -- making it move, making it look so easy despite the overwhelming complexity of the machine. The giant mechanical bird lands on an outcropping of rock, aiming at a castle in the distance, a castle with swirling matter around it. Sure screams 'there's evil over there!' Good thing there presumably are several of these mechanican things aiming at the same place!
All of a sudden, the memory changes to the top of the head of Van Medoh in the blink of an eye, Revali having disappeared and appeared at that new location. It's odd, there are strange embers around Revali, giving him a very ghostly appearance, the telltale sign of someone who is very much dead and only remains as a spirit. Even though it's all from Revali's point of view, it's hard not to notice those things hovering around him!
There's little sound, the memory only letting a few things leak through. Something about waiting for a hundred years, and having to accept someone accomplished something not even Revali could. Definitely sounds like someone having a helping of humble pie, hah.
Looks like Nine wasn't the only one around here who was very much dead before coming to this place! And Revali really didn't want to go telling that to people, really, he intended to keep that as a secret. Medli, though? She sure doens't have such compunction, showing people Revali's secrets around.
[Revali definitely looks pretty unhappy that particular memory was shown around. It's really no surprise this guy doesn't like to admit he was mistaken about anything, is it? If he does, it's mumbled and when there's nobody around. And now, some people got to see him concede he can fail, and also that someone else can do stuff he can't. In his eyes that's worse than people finding out he was dead!]
......
[Sigh. You know what? If his own daemon forces him to talk about this stuff, then he will]
I was dead, alright? I failed at fighting something, and one hundred years later someone I despised and thought was beneath me triumphed where I failed.
[Pretty blunt way of saying it, really]
I don't expect you to understand how it's like to have to place hopes on someone else because you can't do a thing and they can.
[Although of course it was really satisfying for Revali to do his part and blast that accursed Ganon with a giant laser, so at least he got to do that! Silver linings!]
[ It was good seeing him again. Good seeing all of them again. Everyone working in tandem... It felt like events leading up were just some bad nightmare that they were starting to wake up from. Still rubbing the sleep from their eyes, still getting their bearings. Plenty of answers that were still left.
But for now, there was a lull. A quiet. ]
It was good fighting with you out there today. And even better to see you again.
[The peace is nice, truthfully. After the last two months, a night where nothing horrible will be happening is such a welcome respite.
Well, presumably. You never know for sure.
Still, Revali seems a tad more relaxed than he has been since...a century ago, more or less]
Indeed. As strange as it feels to say, it's good to see you again -- and good job fighting today. As expected, you pulled your weight.
[Kotetsu is nowhere close to any warrior Revali has fought, that's for sure, but efforts deserve to be acknowledged, so he will]
Despite all the preparations throughout these weeks it still is hard to believe you all managed to make your way here without dying -- and that we managed to succeed with this bomb plan, somehow.
[ Unfortunate he never was in a situation where he got to show his true power, but that's fine. He doesn't have anything to prove here. ]
It's because people never gave up. That was the most important key in all of this. We all believed in each other and kept moving forward. And even when people faltered, there were others to help us out.
None of us were ever alone. That's what's important.
So it seems. [He sighs] As you know, we were watching you all from over here. While I can't say I care much for all the foolish endeavors many of you got into... I guess in the end it was for the best. If it all managed to keep you all together then it must have been worthwhile somehow.
[Revali says that but he'd have taken part in said foolish endeavors too, really. He did here in graveyard, after all!]
Yeah, some of it might have seemed a little off topic of what we were trying to do... but it kept our spirits strong. We all needed our moments of rest.
[ Yeah, keeping focused was very important, but they would have all burnt themselves out. And the bonds they forged along the way... ]
[week 0 ; friday ; post check-in]
As they walk outside, he hooks his arms behind his head and looks over at Revali. ]
