I wouldn't have gotten your hopes up so high if it was just that. You see that box there? You can put those tapes into it and you don't need any kind of signal.
You gotta take it outside of the package first, then you put it into the front rectangle. Make sure you're putting it in so that the writing is facing out.
[ He'd do it himself, but he's kind of more of the "try it yourself!" type. More fun that way for both parties. ]
Yeah, even kids can figure these things out. Now you just need to press play on there and make sure it's on the right channel. It should start up after.
No, no, no. Didn't mean it like that. I meant after they learned, it's a pretty easy thing. New things are hard to use or control. I get that. I've had to deal with that kind of thing before... numerous times.
[ HE WASN'T PATRONIZING, he swears!!! He just phrases things poorly sometimes. But he looks at the screen to see what's playing. ]
[ This is actually making him pretty happy?? He's always glad when someone enjoys something he's done for them. For now, he's just going to let Sholmes marvel over all of this, half watching what's going on, but also half watching Sholmes himself. ]
[Yeah, he's really just having a good time. He's sitting in front of the TV, and the way he's staring, you can almost hear all the many cogs of his mind just going a million miles a minute.]
[It's a pretty dumb story about some power of friendship stuff, perfect for little kids, but Sholmes is watching it like a Shakespeare play. Though 1/3 of the way through it, he turns to Kotetsu, sounding impressed.]
It isn't all of the time with my busy schedule and it's not usually this kind of thing. These are usually designed for kids. The ones I've watched usually have people acting instead of being animated.
And I usually have popcorn or a beer to go along with it.
That's what this kind of film is called. This one is even old looking, so they're actually a lot better looking than this, in some cases. It's pretty impressive the things people can make with technology.
[ And he nods! ]
Popped corn kernels. You heat them up and it tastes great. Good movie food.
[ Thoughtful chin rub. ]
It's a possibility that they'd have that kind of thing around here, if they've got this kind of technology.

[Just patting the top of it and then fiddling with the antennae like its a toy.]
So it must pick up what, a signal? How unfortunate. And I was excited to see plays and the like!

no subject
Ah, do you have any tapes?
no subject
[ Points at the box on the ground! It's a bunch of random ones.
HE DID THIS FOR YOU, SHOLMES. ]
Take your pick. I don't know what any of them are.
no subject
[And then he puts it on....top of the box....]
[And looks expectantly at it.]
[Help.]

[He totally has this! And yes, it does take a few tries, but eventually, with some fumbling, he gets the tape out and into the player.]
Ah. Elementary, I see.
[Like he didn't have trouble with it at all.]

Come now, give me some slack, my good man. [>8///] But very well.
[And he does so! It's probably super bad VHS quality but a cute little animated movie about trains is playing. Sholmes is enraptured.]
no subject

[He's just like????????]
[????????????????????????????]
[HOW IS ANY OF THIS HAPPENING]
[Also it's probably like bootleg animation studio Thomas the Train Engine.]

You really watch this all the time?
no subject
And I usually have popcorn or a beer to go along with it.

[THIS IS ALL SO NEW TO HIM!!!!!!!]
Yes, this all seems to be a simplistic play with drawings that...move? [And a beat.] Popcorn?

[Hmmmm.]
Corn kernels...hm, something to find and try. I certainly would like to.
no subject
[ Well, some people like to dress up nice, that is. ]
Entertainment's pretty important for people.
[ Scratches his cheek in thought. ]
Let me go check the kitchen and see if they've got anything here. If not, I'd be up for an adventure.
no subject
[Hm?]
Do you need any help, my dear fellow?
no subject
[ He'll shrug. ]
If you want, we could search for some popcorn together and come back and see what other tapes they have to watch.
[ It's been a long time since he'd had a movie night with anyone. ]
no subject
There's nothing a great detective craves more than a good mystery! And a good adventure. So let us go for it, my dear fellow.
[MOVIE NIGHT TIME WITH THE BOYS]

[ ...The best they'll probably get is like knock off Blues Clues or something, but. ]
We'll worry about what to pick later.
[ A moment pause. ]
Do you know what corn kernels look like?
no subject
[And a nod!]
Indeed, I have. Though I admit, I don't know too many recipes that use them.
no subject
[ Might as well start heading to the kitchen. ]
Really? Corn can be pretty delicious.
no subject
It can be, but I'm not the one who cooks in the household! Not often, rather. Or, it's more so I'm banned, sometimes.
